The Hero’s Journey

The Darjeeling Limited

The Darjeeling Limited takes you on a misadventure shared by three brothers, each a bit lost in their own way. Traveling across India, they wrestle with old grief, tangled family connections, and the uneasy space between who they are and who they want to become. It’s a story told quietly, patiently, with humor that rises from the strange, honest moments of life. Nothing is resolved simply, quickly, or even completely. Instead, a quiet kind of acceptance begins to surface. It asks you to slow down, to notice, and to recognize something of yourself in the gentle chaos of being human.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Stuck in a series of daydreams and struggling to actively effect change in his story, Walter Mitty is trapped by his own patterns.  As the film progresses, prompted by a problem at work, Walter is propelled into strange encounters with a wide variety of unique characters, forced to travel across the globe, and made to confront his fears of failure and change.  In the end, he finally learns how to be present and rediscovers what makes him feel most alive.

Little Women (2019)

Little Women brings the 1860’s to life with a timeless coming-of-age story about four sisters growing up and navigating their passions, relationships, personal limits, and social circumstances. Based on a series of novels by Louisa May Alcott and loosely based on her life, Little Women resonates across time as an exploration and celebration of the human heart’s strength, depth, creativity, and capacity for growth.

Lord of The Rings

Film adaptations of beloved novels rarely exceed expectations. Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings is one of the rare exceptions to that rule. Whether you watched these films years ago on the big screen or recently from the comfort of your own couch, a visual return to Middle Earth always evokes the grandeur of adventure that so often lies dormant for those of us living here on regular Earth.

Witnessing the journey of travelers called forth into the wild in defense of all that is good in their shared lands reminds us of the joys of discovery, the desire for a second breakfast, and the heartfelt bonds formed between those with whom we share the roads less traveled.

Time is rarely better spent than watching these films.
